Jon Epcar Sits In With The 8G Band and Answers the M.O.B. Proust(ish) Questionnaire

Born and raised in Los Angeles, drummer Jon Epcar currently resides in NYC. A Berklee graduate, Epcar's performance resume lists a who's who of rock and pop music over the last three decades:  Bono, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Rihanna, Natasha Bedingfield, Carly Rae Jepsen, Klangkarussell, Cristian Castro, Matt Morris, Madison Beer, Katie Melua, Evan Rachel Wood, Jackson Harris, Jesse James, The Ghostwriters, Taryn Manning, Matt & Kim, John Issac Watters, Danielia Cotton.  He is a founding member of the band Carney, with whom he toured and recorded with for many years.  On Broadway, he originated the drum chairs for Spider-Man and Amelie, and his current show is Tina Fey’s Mean Girls.  Jon’s debut album as a songwriter, bandleader, and producer MORNING DRONE, was released 2017. 

But more important than all of that, Jon took the Musicians of Broadway Proust(ish) Questionnaire home and this is what he sent us:

39. What do you listen to in order to relax?

Bill Frisell, Chopin, Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works, Brian Eno, Bill Evans, Joni Mitchell.

37. Favorite Composers?

Right now its Morricone, Blake Mills, Paul Simon, and Ambrose Akinmusire.

30. Who are your heroes in real life?

Anthony Bourdain, Michael Carvin, Sean Pelton, and my pops.

31. What are your favorite names?

Beau (my son's name).

26. What do you most value in your friends?

Timing; comedically, conversationally, musically, or otherwise.

17. Which talent would you most like to have?

I would love to always be present and focused when I play music, its the trait I admire most in my favorite musicians. Its a talent, and a skill.

6. What is your greatest extravagance?

Bougie coffee. I'm always way too happy to avoid Starbucks and hit Gimme! Coffee, Cafe Grumpy, or Cafe Abraco, and spend extra for fancy drip coffee.

14. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

I am definitely guilty of overusing the word "like" in conversation. I also overuse the word "definitely."

1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Beach hanging with my family and friends, lots of cooking.

4. What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Inappropriate ketchup usage . Putting ketchup on eggs or steak is deplorable.
